Cook for OOSH Centre

Our Centre: 250 places, not for profit, run by parent committee, before and after school care centre located in the school grand of Eastwood Public School

Job Summary:

EBASCC cook is responsible for menu planning and evaluation, purchasing of groceries and supplies and daily preparation of nutritious breakfast/afternoon tea and snacks served to children (ages between 5 -12 years old) enrolled in the centre. The kitchen is to be managed and the work of the Cook is to be conducted in strict compliance with Health Department and all other applicable legislation. The cook works in consultation with the Centre Director to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and its coordination with the other programs of the centre.

Responsibility:

  • Support the health and wellbeing of the children through planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks
  • Prepare meals to meet the needs of children with special dietary requirements and allergies
  • Order food supplies in consultation with centre coordinator
  • Ensure safe and hygienic storage, handling and preparation of food and drinks
  • Work as part of team to create a safe, caring and educational place for children.

Required Experiences, Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in cooking for childcare centres (is preferred but not essential)
  • Must hold relevant food handling certificate( Food Safety & Menu Planning ‘certificate, or equivalent TAFE Commercial Cookery Certificates)
  • Although not essential
  • Must have a current working with children check
  • Work well within a team and take directions from  the centre supervisor
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • The position is Permanent Part Time working Monday to Friday, working hours are between 9:00am -4:00pm each day or flexible hours, minimum of 5-6 hours per day.
