Cook, Early Learning Centres

Permanent Position, Part – Time, 54.5 hours per fortnight

Salary Range: $54,043 – $62,807 per annum on pro rata basis + super (subject to skills and experiences)

Exciting new infrastructure projects and community programs have quickly demonstrated the positive impact the new council is having.

Working within a team environment and reporting to the Children’s Service Director, the role of cook is to prepare well balanced culturally appropriate and nutritious meals in accordance with relevant legislation, and Council, Service and Centre Philosophy, Policies and Procedures, including Centre’s Nutrition Policy and Food Safety Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan the weekly menu in consultation with the Director or other staff as required.
  • Prepare meals including lunch, morning and afternoon tea, in accordance with the menu.
  • Adapt menu and ingredients, considering the:
    • Nutritional requirements of the age group
    • Actively seek the involvement of families and staff in menu planning and provide recipes to parents as requested
    • Displaying weekly menus for parent information and make any changes to menus as necessary
    • All children with allergies are catered for with a list on display in the kitchen
    • Specials needs of children 0-2 years
    • Additional food requirements of individual children
    • Cultural and religious differences of children
  • In consultation with the Director ensure the cost of provisions stay within budget while maintaining a high standard of quality food preparation.
  • Maintain stock levels necessary for food provision in the service by undertaking the ordering and shopping.
  • Monitor supplies and food delivery, changing orders as required and ensuring best value for money.
  • Stack the kitchen cupboards and fridges as per Food Regulation guidelines.
  • Checking the menu for the next day and ensuring that meat is transferred to the fridge for thawing and supplies necessary to fulfil the menu are on hand.
