Early Education Cook/s (multiple positions with part-time and full-time options)

Two fantastic opportunities are available for an experienced cook looking to work within a supportive, positive, and rewarding environment at our Early Childhood Education Centres at Flynn and Charnwood. As a part of the North Belconnen Community Association (NBCA), Flynn ECEC and Cooinda Cottage have children ranging from 6 weeks to 5 years. Within the NBCA we take pride in our nutritionally balanced menus to make sure all children have the opportunity to try new foods and experience a wide range of diverse meals that incorporate a variety of protein, vegetables and fruit.

These roles are well supported from a number of key staff within the centre in the planning, organisation and hands on work within the kitchen.

Your role and responsibilities include;

  • Assist in managing the Kitchen (no nights or weekend work!)
  • Forming and maintaining relationships with children through fun and creative food experiences.
  • Follow all NBCA policies and procedures in conjunction with the kitchen’s health and safety requirements
  • Hands on cooking of all meals including morning and afternoon tea, lunch and late snack, including in-house made baby food/puree.
  • Incorporating produce sourced from our herb and vegetable gardens and working with staff and children to create a sustainable lifestyle for our centre. 
  • Inspire us with your creativity and enthusiasm by incorporating current healthy food trends into our menu.
  • Ordering and stock control

Required Experience & Attributes;

  • Working with Vulnerable People Check (or ability to obtain)
  • Understand all aspects of kitchen operations
  • Exceptional Communication skills
  • Ability to work to time limits
  • Ability to adapt and accept late changes due to child and staff requirements
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Positive and friendly attitude
  • Dedication to quality
  • Ability to work cohesively within a large friendly team
  • Ability to support the centre in its journey of growth.
