Bluebird Traralgon is currently recruiting for a Kitchen Hand for our beautiful purpose built service in the heart of Traralgon.

At Bluebird Traralgon, we provide the highest quality Care and Education to all children from the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years. Our wonderful Service is a premium, purpose-built childcare facility, designed to provide a natural and family-friendly environment, inclusive for all.

The Roles

As the Centre Kitchen Hand, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the daily operations of our purpose-built kitchen, ensuring the provision of healthy, fresh, diverse, and wholesome meals for children aged 0 to 6 years. This is an incredible opportunity to collaborate with the team in crafting seasonal menu plans and recipes.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Centre Chef to plan and prepare daily nutritious meals, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea for children aged 0 to 6, considering dietary requirements and preparing purees as needed.

  • Cater to the needs of children with special dietary requirements and allergies.

  • Adhere to the centre's nutrition policy and guidelines.

  • Engage with Educators, children, and families to foster a sense of community and involvement.

  • Conduct cooking programs for the children as required.

  • Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen in accordance with centre policies.

  • Support the Centre Chef with weekly ordering and procure additional ingredients as necessary for menu preparation.

  • Support the Centre Chef to create a 4 week rotational seasonal menu in line with Nutrition Australia requirements.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant vocational qualification in commercial cookery.

  • Food safety certificates.

  • Experience and passion for cooking and presenting a variety of nutritious foods suitable for children aged 0 to 6.

  • Previous kitchen management and chef experience.

  • Prior experience in an Early Learning or Educational facility is desirable.

  • Strong time management skills and confidence in kitchen management.

  • Reliability, positivity, and excellent organizational skills.

  • Precision in managing allergy and intolerance requirements during daily food preparation and delivery.

  • High-quality customer service skills when interacting with colleagues, families, and children.

  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, a First Aid, CPR, and Anaphylaxis certificate.

  • Working with Children Check.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with flexible shift arrangements to benefit the service needs.
