DIPLOMA - Gudjahgahmiamia MACS Early Learning Centre

The Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council (WBACC) operates the Gudjahgahmiamia MACS Early Learning Centre and is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Diploma.  

 

Gudjahgahmiamia MACS (Multifunctional Aboriginal Children’s Service) Early Learning Centre is located in the heart of the Wreck Bay Community in Jervis Bay Territory. It is a small 30-place Centre which supports the team to build strong relationships with the children aged 6 months to 5 years. We are currently recruiting and welcoming applications from energetic, highly motivated, passionate educators to join our team in providing quality early childhood education and care. Our Centre currently operates Monday to Friday 8.45am to 3.15pm, 48 weeks per year.

The position is for 5 days a week, Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 3.30pm Friday 8.30am to 1.30pm.  With a paid staff meeting one afternoon a fortnight.   It will commence August 2026 until the last day care is provided in December 2027. The position will be reviewed in November 2027 and may be extended depending on the operational needs of the Centre. 

 

The successful applicant will be employed under the Children’s Services Award 2010. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills: 

  • An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people: and 

  • An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. 

  • The ability to communicate and build positive relationships with staff, children, families and other early childhood services; 

  • Proven ability to write, implement and evacuate high quality educational programs as well as children’s portfolios; 

  • Excellent knowledge of early childhood development; 

  • The ability to comply with all regulations and legislative requirements, and support other staff to do so; 

  • Knowledge of QIAS, WHS and child protection; 

  • To assist in the ongoing improvement of the Centre; 

  • Excellent time management, delegation and problem-solving skills; and 

  • Computer literacy 

It is expected that you have: 

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or the equivalent.   

  • A current First Aid Certificate or the ability to gain one; and 

  • A current A.C.T. Working with Vulnerable Peoples (WWVP) check or the ability to gain one.  

  • A Police check less than 6 months old or the ability to gain one 

 

There will be a 3-month probationary period. During that time, the Gudjahgahmiamia Director will work through the performance appraisal form with the successful applicant. 

 

All staff employed to work at Gudjahgahmiamia need to show evidence that they are a fit and proper person to work with children for daycare licensing requirements.   

A successful A.C.T. WWVP application is a requirement for this position. Maintaining a current and valid WWVP registration is a requirement for this position. For further information about the WWVP process and conditions, please visit accesscanberra.act.gov.au.
